Electrical Power Generating Exercise Equipment

A small generator can be used to apply resistance to exercise equipment such as bikes and rowing machines, so that the user is generating a small amount of power with every turn. Right now, we are basically wasting a huge amount of power by allowing it to be absorbed by the equipment.

Just imagine a gym that is fully powered by the people working out in it, and that could even give back surplus to the grid. I am sure that there are people already working on this, but I don’t understand why this hasn’t gone mainstream yet (besides the fact that our dirty energy is relatively cheap).

This type of power producing equipment could log troves of data, and link it up to the user so that you could see how much power you produced and if your gym is nice enough, they would credit you for this.
